In his keynote speech, Vaclav Klaus, elected President of the Czech Republic in 2003, commented at the first Heartland Conference on Climate Change in New York that the Czech Republic had just emerged from 70 years of communism and asked, incredulously, why anyone would go back. He was referring to the US and Europe, and identified environmentalism and climate change as the vehicles for the transit.
40 years on, the Club of Rome's predicted catastrophe is nowhere in sight despite efforts to amplify, distort, and falsify evidence. It is as wrong as all the other predictions that various members of the Club made, especially the population predictions of Paul Ehrlich and John Holdren.
On August 3rd and 4th 2010, a solar flare erupted from the surface of the Sun coincident with a sunspot equal in area to the Earth. All sorts of hysterical predictions were made, including claims this was the start of increasingly severe activity leading to 2012. The only thing that materialized was an extensive and dazzling aurora display.
In England, the Agricultural Revolution preceded the Industrial Revolution. A similar pattern has occurred in China over the last thirty years as increased food production preceded industrial and economic growth. Just like England, it caused massive migration from rural to urban. This pattern of increasing food supply preceding urbanization is repeated through history. It is the prerequisite for forming or maintaining a civilization.
